The Columbia Broadcast System was founded by William Paley in 1928 as a grouping of 16 formerly independent radio stations. The company is now a collection of more than 200 television stations and affiliates reaching virtually every home in the United States.

Nicknamed "The Tiffany Network," CBS had a long recent run as TV's most-watched network.
