Premise of 'Cane'

The sugar fields of South Florida serve as a backdrop for this soapy saga about the Duques, a large Cuban-American family facing pressures from both within and without as they run their successful rum and sugar business. Patriarch Pancho has been offered a lucrative deal by his chief competitors, the Samuels family, who want Pancho to sell thousands of acres of sugar cane. If he sells, Pancho can focus exclusively on the family rum business, a prospect his son Frank finds very attractive. Alex, Pancho's adopted son, deeply mistrusts the Samuels clan, however, and he urges Pancho to protect the family legacy he has worked so hard to build. Their business instincts aren't the only striking difference between the woman-chasing Frank and family guy Alex, who has been married to Pancho's daughter, Isabel, since she was 17.
