Premise of 'American Idol'
"Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe freely admits that last season of the hit show went off the tracks, fielding a less-than-stellar lineup of contestants. No wonder people were talking more about hair (we're looking at you, Sanjaya) and less about the music. Not this year, Lythgoe says, adding that this year's auditions turned up some knockout performers. Well, we'll be the judge of that ... along with Randy, Paula and Simon, of course.
