The lives of several people revolve around the search for a missing youngster. Ryan is a therapist who is having an affair and pulling away from his wife, Kate, who desperately wants a baby. Meanwhile, one of Ryan's clients begins a tentative romance as she copes with feelings of racism, and Ryan's mother clings to the foolish belief that the husband who abandoned her will return one day .
