Ambitious attorney Marlene Stanger (Parker Posey) joins the firm, prompting Denise to wonder whether there is room for both of them; Denny goes head-to-head with his son over a woman who lost her baby at an inadequately supplied clinic in Nepal.
Partner Edwin Poole (Larry Miller) returns to the firm after a stint in a mental institution; Denny Crane represents Alan Shore, who is arrested after advising a client accused of attempted murder to flee.
Denny and Alan travel to Los Angeles on business and wind up taking the case of a Hollywood celebrity (Jeri Ryan) who shot a photographer; Denise tries some back-stabbing techniques when she fears Marlene may ruin her chances of making partner.
