Candidates are tested on their ability to combine Asian and Latin cuisine; the final two chefs are each handed the restaurant keys to determine who will be Executive Chef.
Chefs compete at Abels on the Lake restaurant in Austin, Texas. The chefs are challenged with their use of local ingredients, their ability to handle quality with large quantities and by completing a dinner service.
Chefs create a pizza using seafood and then make a four ingredient dish; one chef leaves during the interview; a surprise brings an abrupt end to the interview.
