Premise: Hosted by Nobel Prize-winning scientist Daniel Kammen, this six-part series takes a look at life in a blueprint city called Ecopolis in 2050, and the picture isn't pretty. The computer-generated megacity is dirty, polluted and running out of food, water and fuel. Kammen, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley, evaluates the future problems and addresses them with several technology-driven solutions that could help produce enough food and water, find clean and reliable energy sources, reduce the reliance on oil for transportation, and discover new ways to manage waste. He then chooses one technology per episode that is most effective. In the final episode, Kammen picks the single innovation with the greatest potential to transform the imaginary Ecopolis.
