Premise: ``Food Network Star'' returns for a ninth season as 12 more hopefuls compete for the chance to win their own show on Food Network. Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay return to mentor the contestants as they hone their skills and compete in challenges throughout the season. Network executives Susie Fogelson and Bob Tuschman also return as part of the selection committee to decide who goes home each week. Each episode features two challenges, the second of which features the finalists each preparing and presenting a dish to Fogelson, Tuschman and a focus group comprised of Food Network fans. The selection committee decides who goes home each week following the second challenge until just one hopeful remains. In a new wrinkle this year, one finalist gets a second chance by being brought back after elimination in hopes of getting their own show.
