With the coming of the Maryland Steeplechase, the owner of Fromme's Sporting Goods Store asks salesman Peter Mason to impersonate jockey Peter Randall, who is abroad and can't publicize the event. Although Peter can't ride, he agrees and attends a pre-race party, where he meets beautiful Ellen Parker . While there, race fan Droopy pleads with Peter to ride the unmanageable racehorse Jeepers Creepers. Realizing Ellen will be impressed, Peter agrees.
