The entire season of Knight Rider came down to one last episode (they usually do), and it was an episode on steroids. Literally. Steroids were involved, or really, super steroids, super duper extra-high tech steroids.
Does it seem weird to anyone that tonight's Knight Rider started with our thinned out team turning their headquarters into a frat house? I thought they were supposed to be out there saving the world. Apparently that now requires a foosball table and an easy chair with a cooler in the armrest.
We're always learning new things on Knight Rider. One week we might find out that Michael was the original driver of KARR, another week that Doc Graiman had a house in Hawaii (wait, were those the same week?). Tonight we found out that at night, KITT likes to scan the police bands, listening for any sort of emergency that might allow him to wake Michael from a deep slumber.
Tonight on Knight Rider, the shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist came face to face with a club we cannot discuss. And yet, as this is a recap of the show, I feel compelled to discuss everything, save perhaps the club itself as I don't want to incur anyone's wrath.
This week we got our first look at the new Knight Rider team working out of their old offices. The first thing we saw them doing? They were fast asleep (technically Sarah wasn't at first, but she quickly passed out). Apparently they'd all had a really hard day working on a very tough case. If it was me, I would have shown the newly slimmed-down group on their first assignment this week. Clearly, it's not my call.
Well, we waited weeks and watched endless promos for this episode of Knight Rider. I think we were actually promised the event last week, but in reality, it was tonight that KARR returned. I'm not afraid to say that I was excited that the moment had at last come to pass.
As you may recall last time on Knight Rider the show lifted the "can't drop below such-and-such mph" from Speed and Carrie died... maybe. Plus, there were two turbo boosts, and that's really why I watch the show (that and the bikinis).
Tonight marked the first Knight Rider episode of the new year. I'm not quite sure why that feels momentous, but somehow it does. Actually, I think that even the producers believed it momentous, they threw in explosions, chuckles, and one very special surprise or two just for me.
Just in case you're unaware, this is New Year's Eve. It's a day when people go out, pay way too much for food, and watch a ball in a controlled drop in New York City. It is, this year, also apparently the night that NBC figured it ought to return Knight Rider to the schedule, a decision that makes about as much sense to me as the plot of a Knight Rider episode.
Sadly, tonight's episode of Knight Rider was the last new one we'll see in 2008. I had hoped that they would propel themselves into the new year with a turbo boost, but unfortunately that was not to be. I guess I'll have to wait till 2009.
