Premise: Lava is important to the Hawaiian Islands. The molten rock shapes the state's landscape, ecology and economy. But the effluence can be very dangerous to the islands. If the rivers of the 2,000-degree liquid come from peaks in populated areas, they can destroy buildings and roads. ``Lava Chasers'' follows the residents and scientists who study the phenomenon and conduct experiments in order to predict events, proactively prepare for eruptions, and keep people, buildings and infrastructure out of harm's way.
