Charlie Dunlap has been obsessed with traffic patterns since he was a boy and reveres traffic reporter Alan Davenport . After moving to Los Angeles to find a job reporting on the freeways, Charlie sees his career stall. However, he runs into childhood friend and teenage love Amy, now a waitress and dancer in an avant-garde company. Charlie becomes determined both to work for Davenport and to win back Amy, even though she is not interested at first.
