Brash and ambitious Carl Hemphill is none-too-pleased when he loses his lofty corporate job and is forced to move into the ratty Harlem tenement apartment of his sweet but dim brother, Simon. And Carl's mood doesn't improve when eccentric cable TV mogul Duke Stone hires Simon to be a programming executive at his network. Simon's new gig also doesn't sit well with Mitch Lowen, Duke's arrogant nephew. Luckily, Simon's colleague Libby Keeler is on hand to foil Mitch's schemes. But Carl is doing some scheming of his own, now that Simon has hired him for a far more menial position.
