Eleven aspiring fashionistas compete for an editorial job at Elle magazine by performing assistant tasks and editorial assignments for the magazine's fashion news director, Anne Slowey. Each week Anne fires one contestant, until the last assistant standing receives a grand prize valued at $100,000: an editorial position at Elle, a paid lease on a Manhattan apartment and a clothing allowance at H&M, all for one year.
Fashionistas, Recessionistas, and all other miscellaneous -istas: Welcome, at long last, to the season finale of Stylista! It seems like just yesterday we were laughing at the way Anne Slowey wobbled in her stilettos and wondering if that greasy girl Megan was as awful as she seemed. Aaaand...so little has changed since then.
Stylista took on a Project Runway flair tonight with model casting, a runway show, and major drama involving shoes. Yes, that was a random Project Runway season one finale reference...it's possible I'm a little obsessed.
Tonight on Stylista, I learned that the 80's are back, supermodels are obnoxious, and hard work will get you nowhere. And thus I resolve to wear nothing but Hammer Pants and bedazzled t-shirts, insist upon being served organic melon balls everywhere I go, and do nothing but call other people names and be bossy. I'll be running a fashion magazine in no time!
Many thanks to Andrea for covering this drama-fest for me last week. And you guys, much as I love the drama on Stylista, at this point I'm not sure there's a single contestant I actually like. Which is kind of a problem. You need to have someone to root for!
I'm a Stylista newbie, so thank you to Liz for letting me try my hand at the newest competition reality show. Previously, they styled an Elle trends page and Cologne was sent home. Her name is Cologne? Really? I can't decide if it's worse if her parents saddled her with that name or if she picked it out herself. Either way... that's horrible. If I ever get on a reality show, I'm going to make everyone call me "Parfume."
Stylista featured mothers and daughters tonight, but they were shockingly low-drama compared to our aspiring Elle girls. I hate to admit it, but I'm kind of loving this show.
