Premise of 'Survivor: Gabon'

For its 17th season, the hit reality competition series returns to Africa, specifically the west coast of the continent, to a country so unspoiled some call it "the last Eden." Expect plenty of serpents among the conniving players, though. This season also marks the first time "Survivor" is being shot in high-definition, so if you thought those festering insect bites looked bad in past seasons, think again.

Jeffprobst_survivorgabonearthslas_2 It’s not been a spectacular season of Survivor: Gabon this Fall, but it has been a very subtly interesting season in terms of strategy. There has not been a overwhelmingly strong player all season long, but there have been a lot of pretenders to that throne. Through virtue of coincidence, emotional decisions, and manipulation, we have five survivors who are all here for different reasons. Kenny for his lies, Bob for his ingenuity, Matty for his tenacity, Susie for her innocuous appearance, and Sugar for her timely alliances, but in two short hours, we’ll see which factor can take a survivor to the top this season. • Bob and Sugar toy with immunity as 'Survivor: Gabon' winds down

Mattywhitmore_survivorgabonearthsla Who is in charge at Survivor:Gabon? Of the players left, two can be said to be sliding by - Crystal by virtue of the fact that she is so deep in Ken’s pocket, and Susie because she is flying so far under the radar. So who is in control? Both Kenny and Sugar believe that they head up their alliance, and so far, there has been no reason for them to go head to head. Bob and Matty also seem to be in control of their own destinies; Matty because he is currently the biggest physical threat in the game, and Bob because of his intelligent play and nose for challenges. As it winds down, this headless beast of a season should show its true nature very soon. Continue Reading

  • Bob's fake idols direct gameplay on 'Survivor:Gabon'

Kenhoang_survivorgabonearthslaste_2 Welcome back everyone! I hope you’re still picking cranberries out of your teeth as you sit down to enjoy the next chapter in the adventure that is Survivor:Gabon! After enjoying the best episode of the season, how can this week follow up? C’mon, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. I doubt we’ll see something as spectacular as the bluff they pulled on Randy, but with the headcount down to seven, the possibilities for drama are running high! Continue Reading

  • Randy's idol gaffe draws smiles on Survivor: Gabon

Bobcrowley_survivorgabonearthslaste The last couple of episodes of Survivor: Gabon have seen the show moving in the right direction. Powerful players getting picked off is far more interesting than watching one tribe being slaughtered night in and night out. Also, personalities are emerging.  Randy is abrasive, Kenny is megalomaniacal, Crystal is whiny and Corinne is bitchy – these are the traits that are fun to watch, but might get you voted off. Sugar has a knack for deciding which way the power shifts, Matty plays hard, Susie is guileless and Bob is amiable – these are the traits that might take you all the way, but also make you a target. Now, the show can begin in earnest. Continue Reading

  • Long-awaited merge makes for good TV on 'Survivor: Gabon'

Randybailey_survivorgabonearthslast All right! Now things are getting interesting around here! Double blindsides, power swings, and the impending merge have given new life to this previously dull season. Let’s hope the rest of Survivor: Gabon lives up to the promise of last week’s episode. A clear favorite is yet to emerge and the true natures of some of this season’s survivors are still secret. The power vacuum in the old Kota alliance, the extent of Sugar’s gamesmanship, and Kenny’s ability to rally tribe members to his side are all big question marks. Hopefully, we will have these question marks turn into exclamation points in the coming weeks. Continue Reading
