Halle Berry and Tyler Perry co-host ceremonies from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People celebrates its 100th aniversary with the 40th annual presentation of awards honoring outstanding achievements and performances by people of color in the arts, as well as individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors. Former Vice President Al Gore and Professor Wangari Muta Maathai will receive the Chairman's Award, while hip-hop pioneer Russell Simmons receives the Vanguard Award.
