Premise of 'The Amazing Race 12'

On your mark, get set ... go! Eleven pairs of adventurers hit the road in a global race for cash and bragging rights as the popular (and multiple Emmy-winning) competitive reality series begins its 12th season. The producers have streamlined things a bit this time, decreasing the show's run by two episodes and reducing the number of those non-elimination Pit Stops. Any team that is spared by a non-elimination Pit Stop faces a new hurdle in the next leg of the race: a Speed Bump, which is a special task that team must complete while the other teams are allowed to continue racing. Another new wrinkle: The U-Turn, which occurs only twice during the course of this race, both times following a Detour. In each instance, one team can penalize another by forcing them to go back and complete the remaining task from the Detour they just finished before they may proceed further. Phil Keoghan hosts. In the suspenseful finale, laid-back couple TK Erwin and Rachel Rosales bagged the $1 million prize after they pulled ahead of frontrunners Christina Hsu and her father, Ronald, at the challenging final Roadblock. The Hsus came in second, while Donald Jerousek, the oldest contestant ever to complete The Amazing Race, came in third with his grandson, Nicolas Fulks.
