Genre: Art, Documentary
Premise: Art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon surveys the mysterious and magnificent history of Russian art. The hourlong episodes, three in all, begin with Graham-Dixon exploring medieval Russia, where he discovers how Ivan the Terrible was influenced by religious art. Graham-Dixon then tells of how, at the onset of the 20th century, Russian art moved from being a servant of the state to an agent of its destruction. The series concludes with the host examining how art was at the forefront of dissolving royal rule, and how Russia today is the home to some of the world's strangest art.
