Genre: Documentary, Crime
Premise: It takes teamwork and commitment to solve homicides. ``The Shift'' looks into the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to show what's involved in solving cases, giving closure to victims' families. The series follows the department's middle shift -- 2 to 10:30 p.m. daily, considered prime time for killings -- as detectives go from an initial radio call dispatching a unit to the scene, to the moment a suspect is in handcuffs. With the IMPD, that happens more than in many other U.S. cities. Nationally, about 60 percent of death crimes result in arrest and indictment, but in Indianapolis, the department has nearly 80 percent success with these cases.
