The popular music competition returns for a second season with an expanded audition process that allows artists with pre-existing management contracts to participate. Pop icon Britney Spears and singer/songwriter Demi Lovato join returning judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid as they travel the country searching for individuals and groups who are willing to put their talents out there in hope of becoming the next big thing. Contestants who survive the first auditions are then divided into four categories, each of which will be mentored by one of the judges, where their abilities are put to the test. The viewers at home ultimately decide the winner.
