Premise: The ninth season of ``Top Chef'' takes place in Texas, where everything is said to be bigger, so it is fitting that its list of chefs is supersized -- 29 hopefuls begin the season, nearly double the number of competitors in past seasons. But that number is quickly reduced to 16, who compete in cities across the Lone Star State, including Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. The contestant who survives the weekly eliminations and is named the winner earns a prize package that includes $125,000 and a feature in Food & Wine magazine -- not to mention the coveted title of Top Chef. Joining the judges' panel this season -- alongside returning judges Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons -- are Emeril Lagasse and Hugh Acheson.
