On June 16, 2013, Miss Utah answered a question during the Miss USA pageant asked of her by "Real Housewife" NeNe Leakes regarding the unequal pay between men and women in the U.S. with, "create education better," according to the New York Post. Marissa Powell, 21, who hails from Salt Lake City, was posed the query, "A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does that say about our society?" In response to NeNe's question, Marissa stated, "I think we can relate this back to education, and how we are continuing to try to strive... to... figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem right now." Then, still seeming to desperately struggle with the question, she added, "I think, especially men are... um... seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to see how to... create education better... so that we can solve this problem.
